| Salt Creek Camera Club FAQ'sHere are some of the questions new members frequently ask....
Q: What is Salt Creek Camera Club?A: Salt Creek Camera Club is one of the oldest camera clubs in the Chicago area. It was originally a club that held slide competitions, but has evolved to include prints, and most recently digital competitions. One of our main objectives is to help new members to improve their photographic skills through education and competition. We meet twice each month from September through June; for our schedule, click here. To find where we meet, click here.
Q: How can I find out more about the club?A: Please come to one of our meetings (see the schedule here) and get to know us. You are under no obligation to join.
Q: I'm a novice in photography. Will joining help me improve my photography?A: SCCC regularly schedules educational programs put on by members and others who are knowledgeable about photography. These programs are free to our members. In addition, through the club you have access to outside educational programs that are conducted in the Chicago area. Finally, by observing and joining in the competitions, you can receive advice on improving your skills.
Q: How do I join?A: Once you decide to join our club, you simply submit your application (link below) and pay your annual dues. SCCC Membership Application Form PDF Word
Q: Are there other benefits to joining?A: Yes. As a member you may enter the competitions and receive ribbons for your work. Only members may compete. Images that score well at our club competitions may be selected to compete at the Chicago Area Camera Club Association (CACCA) competitions and receive additional awards. You will also be eligible to enter individual competitions both locally and internationally through your affiliation with SCCC and CACCA. As a member you will be invited to attend training and educational programs, some at no cost to members.
Q: What kind of competitions does the club have?A: We hold competitions in two groups - "small" print and DPI. Small prints are any print that can fit on a mounting board that is 11 X 14 inches. DPI are projected digital images, either directly from a camera or scanned. See the information below on more details about each category. In addition to these "open" competitions we also have competitions on special subjects and a "President's Choice".
Q: How do I compete?A: All you need to do is to join our club and follow the rules for entering your photographs in the competition you choose.
Q: How are the competitions conducted?A: Competitions are held on the first meeting of every month for the schedule for competitions, click on this link. The competitions are judged by three members of another club. Images are scored by each judge on a scale that goes from 0 - 10, although, for practical reasons, only scores of 5 - 9 are awarded. The top scoring images are then entered into a second round of judging and selected for Honorable Mention, Award, and one image is selected as the "Image of the Month" in that class of competition (print, slide, or DPI). A group of club veterans then select the images to be submitted in the CACCA competition.
Q: What do I need to enter the print competition?A: Basic contest rules can be found here. Prints must be mounted and submitted with a label on the back (upper left corner) and also listed on a score sheet. Q: What do I do to enter in the digital image competition?A: Go to this page to find all of the information you need to enter the digital competitions. |
