| Messenger Woods InformationDirections to Messenger:Take I-355 south to 159th Street exit - turn left (east) Go 1.7 miles to Cedar Road Turn right (south) on Cedar and go 2 miles until it turns left (east) Stay on Bruce for 1.25 miles to entrance on left Drive into the park as far as you can
Finding the Wildflowers:Print out the map from this PDF Leave the parking lot heading north and cross the small bridge Shortly after crossing the bridge follow the smaller trail on the left (yellow line) This trail will lead you to the Virginia Bluebells across a small creek If you go back or stay on the main trail there are a lot of wildflowers (Trillium, Jack-in-the Pulpit, etc.) right on the sides of the trail (light blue lines)
Suggestions:Dress for damp/muddy conditions and for crossing a small creek (no bridge, water can be 4" - 12") The trail requires you to be able to go under/over fallen trees PLEASE - try to stay on established trails Take a copy of the Messenger wildflower guide if you don't know your flowers too well. Open your eyes and look carefully - some plants are not easy to spot Use a polarizer if it is a sunny day Cloudy/overcast days may be better than bright sun - you have to be the judge Bring a garden kneeling cushion for low shots/closeups - save muddy knees! |
