SCCC Competition Rules

CONTEST RULES

AUGUST 2012

1.      Classifications:

Members are placed in classes A, B or C, based on skill and experience, or by choice in class A.  The Contest Committee, made up of the contest chairman and 2 other members, determines the class of new members and any changes which must be made in classifications of all members.  Classes B and C will be based on experience and skill.  Classes may be combined if there are not sufficient participants for all classes of competitions.  Competition will be for awards with the exception that Class A will be by choice of the entrant and will be for scores only.  Images from all classes will be eligible for CACCA.

2.      Contest Entries

General Subject Contests – Each member is entitled to enter up to 3 prints and 3 DPI images in each competition.  Of these, each member will receive points for the top-scoring 2 prints and 2 DPI images entered.

Special Subject Contests – Each member is entitled to enter up to 2 prints and 2 DPI images.  All will receive points.  It is encouraged that images entered in “Special Subjects” be taken specifically for the competition.

Reentries – If a member believes a non-winning print or digital image has special merit, it may be reentered in only one subsequent contest.

3.  Make-up Entries

The Contest Chairman may allow make-up prints and DPI Images in regular monthly contests.  If a member knows they are going to miss a future meeting, they should give their entries to another member, to be entered for them.  Make-up entries should be submitted on a separate card and are limited to the number of images which are eligible for points.  This should only be used when an emergency has made it impossible to previously submit these images.

4.       Ineligible Entries

Images which have previously won awards and honorable mentions in regular Salt Creek contests (except President’s Trophy and Special Contests) are not eligible.  Entries should not be almost identical in subject matter and composition to previous winners.

Images may be entered in only one category (as a print, or DPI) per camera club year.  It may be entered in a different category in the following year.

5.      Preparation of Images

Prints – Prints should be mounted on 11” by 14” boards.  All prints, whether color or black & white are judged together in Salt Creek contests.  A label must be put on the back of the board in the upper left corner.  A two part entry form must also be submitted listing all entries.

DPI – Must follow the CACCA standard for submission of images:

1.      Images must not be greater than 768 pixels high or 1024 pixels wide, including any border.

2.      All images must be submitted as JPEG (JPG) files.  RAW, TIFF, GIF or other formats will not be accepted.

3.      Images must be in sRGB (not Adobe RGB) color space.

4.      All images must be submitted not later than the meeting preceding the meeting at which the DPI competition is held.

5.      Images must be named according to the SCCC naming convention (see instructions on SCCC web site).  They will be retitled for CACCA if selected.

6.      It is recommended that images have a 10 pixel white border to enhance visual presentation (Optional).

7.      Images may be submitted by E-mail or on a DVD/CD, Thumb drive, or other digital media (CF card).

8.      All digital entries including color and black & white will be judged together.

6.      Monthly Winners

Judges select approximately 10% of the entries in each class each month for awards, and another 10% for honorable mentions.  In case of a tie, the contest chairman may include an additional ribbon.

Only those images whose scores are used for end of year honors can receive monthly awards.  In general competition the lowest score is thrown out.  Example:  If three print images are entered in general prints, only the top two scores are kept to determine the end of year standings (refer to Section 2), therefore only those 2 prints are eligible for honors.

7.      Scores

Special recognition is given at the end of the year to those in each class having the highest cumulative scores.  In case of a tie, 2 awards will be given.  The published scores for each member are considered to be accurate unless a member protests an inaccuracy to the contest chairman.

8.      Print of the Month and DPI Image of the Month

After the regular judging is completed, all award entries are reshown to the judges, who then choose the best one as “Print of the Month” or “DPI Image of the Month”.  CACCA in/out scoring rules will apply.  Scores of 0, 1 will be “out”; scores of 2 or 3 are “in”; entries will be rescored until one image has been selected.

9.  CACCA and PSA selections

Prints to be submitted to CACCA will be selected by a committee, including the CACCA representative, plus two additional members; selection will be completed during the break between prints and DPI competitions.  Other entries may be taken home after the selections have been made. DPI images will be selected by the DPI Committee based on scores awarded during club competition.

10.    End of Year Competition: Print of the Year – DPI Image of the Year

Contest – These contests are held at the end of each season.  Each member may enter four entries in each contest, selected from the current season’s contests.  Up to four awards (1st place through 4th place) are selected from each class.  Only one image per person in each class is eligible for an award.  The winning entry from each class is awarded a PRINT OF THE YEAR, or DPI IMAGE OF THE YEAR ribbon.  From the top entries in each class, one is selected as the “TOP PRINT OF THE YEAR”, or “THE TOP DPI IMAGE OF THE YEAR” and the maker is given a trophy or may chose a certificate or announcement.

Eligibility – Only entries entered in the current club year are eligible.  Images entered in the President’s Trophy contest are not eligible.

11.    President’s Trophy

Each year a trophy is awarded for the top print of a special subject.  This award is called the “Presidents Trophy”.  The subject for the year is chosen by the club President.  A Trophy is awarded for the winner of the top image.  Ribbons are awarded for second, third and fourth place. Members are allowed to enter four prints, which must have been taken  during  the current club  year and  which  have not  been entered in  any previous

contest.  Prints entered in the President’s Trophy contests may be entered in regular contests, in following years.  No member may receive more than one ribbon in each contest.

Immediate past winners of the trophy may not repeat as a trophy winner for a period of two years.  They may, however, enter the contest and receive a second, third, or fourth place ribbon.

12.  Competition Changes

Based on participation, competitions may be changed during the club year to better reflect the interests of the members.  This will be done by the executive committee.

13.  Members With Multiple Affiliations

Members of SCCC who also belong to other camera clubs competing in CACCA competitions agree that all images entered in SCCC competitions will be made available for PSA and/or CACCA competitions as SCCC submissions.
